N-YHS & AMNH – 4/20/12

Hi everyone,

It’s finally time to sign up for what is perhaps our biggest trip of the semester.  I know it is late in the semester and we are all feeling the workload crunch, but you really don’t want to miss this trip because we have a double-header planned to visit two premier institutions in New York City.

Our first visit with be to the New-York Historical Society Library, the second oldest historical society in the United States and home to one of the best American history collections, anywhere.  The staff at N-YHS are marvelous and we’ll be meeting with three of their top people – their archivist, manuscript curator and head of conservation.

This portion of the trip will begin at 10am and run approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

More on N-YHS here: http://www.nyhistory.org/library.

Our second visit will be to the American Museum of Natural History, which is conveniently located next door to N-YHS.  We’ll first spend time visiting with and getting a tour of the archives of the Anthropology Department, followed by another tour and visit with the staff of their main research library.  After this visit, you’ll really know how special, “special collections” can be!

This portion of the trip with begin at 1:30pm and run about 2.5 hours.

More info here: http://research.amnh.org/anthropology/ and here: http://library.amnh.org/.

Space for this trip is *definitely* limited, so make sure to RSVP at the survey monkey link, below.  If you think you can attend for only the morning or only the afternoon portion of the trip, you can indicate that on the survey and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Please direct any questions to me, thanks!
