When using applications on Software Anywhere, you may find you need to read from or write to files on the computer you’re using.  The steps below describe how to get to those files, and arrange it such that you only need to do this once.

  1. Log into Software Anywhere site (http://sa.comminfo.rutgers.edu) and start the application of your choice.
  2. In the application, attempt to access a file from your computer as you normally would (for example, “File” menu, “Open…”)
  3. On the left, choose “Computer” (as highlighted in the image above).
  4. Then at the bottom of the list under “Other”, choose the drive from your computer, similar to that shown in the image above, e.g. “Local Disk (C: on <your computer’s name>)”, and a File permissions window will appear
  5. Check the box for “Do not ask me again for this site”
  6. Then click “Permit all access” (this means the application can read and write to files on your computer
  7. You should then be able to read and write to files and folders on your computer

If the above steps do not work, please perform the following:

  1. Find the system tray icon for Citrix Receiver, and right-click it.  This would be a black and gray icon as shown here (receiver_icon), located near the clock on the bottom right part of your screen. Then, click “About”.
  2. In the dialog window that appears, click the arrow next to “Advanced”.
  3. In the “Advanced” drop down menu, click “Connection Center”.
  4. A “Citrix Connection Center” window will appear. Look for the “Files” drop-down menu under “Session Security”.
  5. Click on the “Files” drop-down menu and choose “Full Access”. Do the same for “USB/Other Devices” and “Microphones/Webcams”. They should all be set to “Full Access”.
  6. Click “Close” when finished, then return to the Software Anywhere application of your choice.
  7. If you still don’t see the “Other” section when attempting to open a file on your local computer’s hard drive, try closing all applications that you have open on Software Anywhere and then opening it again.
  8. If after closing and reopening all Software Anywhere applications, it is suggested you contact the SC&I IT Services Helpdesk for assistance.
