This example uses software called MySQL Workbench. If you do not have this software installed, please download and install it before proceeding. The following tutorial also assumes that you have already created your class resources through NetSync (http://account.comminfo.rutgers.edu).

  • Open MySQL Workbench
  • Look for “MySQL Connections”. Click the “+” button.
  • Create a new connection Under “Connection Name”, enter “studentweb”:
    • Under the Connection Method dropdown menu, choose “Standard TCP/IP over SSH”
    • Under SSH hostname, enter “studentweb.comminfo.rutgers.edu”
    • Under SSH Username, enter your NetID username
    • Under SSH Password, click the “Store in Vault” button and enter your NetID password when prompted
    • Under MySQL hostname, enter “localhost”, “127.0.0.1” or “studentweb.comminfo.rutgers.edu”. All options should work
    • Under MySQL Server Port, keep this at “3306”
    • Under Username, enter your NetID username
    • Under Password, enter your MySQL password found in your home directory on studentweb
  • Click the “Test Connection” button when you’re done entering the above info, you should see a successful connection message. If this is not the case, please review the settings with your professor. If he/she cannot assist, please contact SC&I IT Services at help@comminfo.rutgers.edu
